The Role
We are looking for a Strategy Director to lead brand strategy for Toyota and Lexus in the UK. This pivotal role requires a self-sufficient leader with an interest in cars and the evolving automotive landscape.
As the guardian of Toyota/Lexus's global brand strategy within the UK, you will be responsible for its impactful execution, driving Toyota and Lexus towards market leadership and making it the number one choice for automotive consumers in the UK. This will require owning key client relationships at a UK CMO level, acting as their trusted advisor and strategic partner.
The ideal candidate will expertly translate brand strategy into actionable plans across all customer touchpoints, encompassing paid media, CRM, social and both digital and physical customer experiences.
Key to achieving this will be your cross-functional leadership skills. You'll need to be able to seamlessly connect creative, media, social, CRM, and CX teams to deliver a unified and impactful experience of the Toyota/Lexus brand.
This role offers a flexible working arrangement with 3 days in office, ideally with 1 day a week with our clients in the Epsom office, and the other 2 in our Central London office.
You will work into a Strategy Partner who oversees Toyota/Lexus’s global strategy across multiple markets. You will work alongside a Comms Strategy Director and a Client Services Director to lead and run the T&Pm team for Toyota/Lexus UK, supported by full client service and media planning teams.
Key responsibilities
- Develop and champion insightful, creative and data-driven strategic thinking that fuel best in class marketing and communications solutions.
- Deeply understand Toyota/Lexus's business objectives, target audience, and competitive landscape.
- Define the most compelling means of executing the global brand strategy, designing how it is applied across brand campaigns, model launch moments and ongoing sales-driving activity.
- Translating and understanding client needs, marketing fundamentals, data and research into compelling creative briefs that inspire breakthrough work.
- Takes a leading role alongside the Comms Strategy Director on measurement, getting into the detail of what the most important metrics are and how to use them to report on success
- Proactively identify key opportunities and touchpoints across the customer journey to optimise engagement and brand impact.
- Confidently present and defend strategic recommendations to senior stakeholders, both internally and client-side.
Skills and Experience
- Experience of, and passion for, core strategic craft skills to define the absolute fundamentals of brand positioning, personality and identity
- Passion, enthusiasm and ambition to build thinking beyond brand and marketing, that contributes to upstream business and commercial thinking.
- Confidence getting “hands on” with data would be a plus – you are a strategist, not an analyst, but comfort with data would be advantageous.
- Experience of large client organisations or automotive brands, or at least a keen interest would be an advantage.
- Thrives on creative problem-solving and taking ownership of challenges, contributing solutions and insights that elevate both small executional projects and large-scale strategic initiatives.
