Freelance Account Director
The Role: Freelance Account Director
We are looking for an experienced Freelance Account Director to support our content studio team on a leading entertainment client, overseeing projects and campaigns from initial brief through to final delivery.
This is a hands-on, client-facing role requiring strong relationship management, strategic thinking, and the ability to lead complex, integrated workstreams in a fast-paced environment. You will serve as a trusted partner to the client, ensuring projects run smoothly, creative work meets business objectives, and teams remain aligned across multiple priorities. You will be expected to step in quickly, take ownership of complex workstreams, and confidently lead projects from brief through delivery.
You will play a key role in overseeing brand and performance-driven creative, including campaigns across digital, social, email, CRM, and direct marketing channels. A strong understanding of customer engagement, retention, and subscription-based businesses will be valuable, alongside the ability to balance creative ambition with measurable business results.
We're looking for someone who can hit the ground running, confidently manage senior client relationships, anticipate challenges, and work collaboratively with creative, strategy, production, and project management teams. You should be comfortable independently owning client workstreams and driving decisions and delivery with minimal oversight.
The team is based out of the client's office in NYC, and this role requires 2 days a week onsite.
This is a freelance opportunity, anticipated to run from October/November through February with the potential of extension.
Role Expectations
Client Relationship Management: Serve as a senior point of contact for the client, building and maintaining strong relationships across multiple stakeholders. Provide proactive counsel, manage expectations, and ensure clear, consistent communication throughout all stages of a project. Think ahead, set expectations early, and have transparent conversations before challenges impact the work.
Account & Campaign Leadership: Lead the day-to-day management of complex, integrated projects and campaigns from briefing through delivery. Partner closely with creative, strategy, production, and project management teams to ensure work is delivered on time, on budget, and to a high standard. Independently own assigned client workstreams end-to-end, serving as the primary day-to-day lead and driving progress, decisions, and delivery with minimal oversight.
Strategic Partnership: Develop a strong understanding of the client's business, objectives, and challenges. Translate business needs into clear, actionable briefs and help identify opportunities to strengthen creative output and campaign effectiveness.
Operational & Financial Oversight: Oversee account operations, including scopes of work, budgets, timelines, resource planning, and financial tracking. Ensure accurate reporting, clear documentation, and adherence to agency processes.
Creative Integrity & Collaboration: Champion strong creative work while ensuring alignment with client objectives, brand standards, and performance goals. Provide thoughtful feedback, navigate client input, and help teams deliver effective creative solutions.
Brand Identity & Creative Systems: Lead major branding initiatives, including brand overhauls, brand identity development, and large-scale creative system builds and rollouts. Guide cross-functional teams and stakeholders through complex brand work from initial brief through implementation.
Integrated & Performance Marketing: Bring a strong understanding of the digital and social landscape, including CRM, email, SMS, and direct marketing. Collaborate with media, data, and strategy teams to ensure campaigns are informed by performance insights and optimized for results.
Cross-Functional Leadership: Build strong working relationships across internal teams and external agency partners, ensuring alignment on priorities, deliverables, and expectations. Make sure stakeholders understand what is needed, who is responsible, and when work is due.
Prioritization & Problem-Solving: Confidently manage competing priorities in a high-volume environment. Anticipate challenges, resolve issues proactively, and provide clear direction when navigating complex client or project needs. Escalate issues proactively and bring recommended solutions rather than simply flagging problems.
AI & Innovation: Stay informed on emerging technologies and AI-based tools, identifying opportunities to improve workflows, creative development, and campaign effectiveness
